    Property Description

Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge, a Kalahari gem, expands its offering

Established in 2012, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge which has been a firm favourite amongst locals and travellers alike as a luxurious, one-stop destination in the Kalahari, has expanded its offering to ensure it remains the ideal desert haven where modern meets wilderness.

Two-hundred and fifty kilometres away from Upington Airport, and only five kilometres from the popular Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, this family-owned and operated lodge has revamped its aesthetic taking inspiration from the natural surroundings, including the magnificent Northern Cape sky and the flora that paints olive green hues in the area, such as the haakbos, suurgras, and kaalgras leaves.

Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge is well-known for its array of 32 strategically placed chalets, offering family, luxury, standard and business chalets, as well as 15 4-star campsites, each with its own ablution block and four of which are situated alongside their own chalet.

To add to the existing offerings, the Lodge’s portfolio has expanded to include Black Mane Butcher & Grill, founded by Head Chef and Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge owner SJ Koortzen, which pays tribute to the free-roaming black maned lions synonymous with the Kalahari and offers only the finest quality meat -including game meat - burgers, pies, artisanal sandwiches and gourmet pizzas – serving delectable meals suitable for all palates. A grocery shop, Black Mane On-the-Go, with eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging, is also available on-site offering on-the-go meals for travellers making their way through the Kalahari. Further to this, the Lodge has launched its own 4x4 hire, Oryx 4x4, for visitors to the Kalahari looking to explore the many attractions the area has on offer.

In addition to the new amenities, the Lodge has furthered their conservation efforts by planting man-made hedges around each of the chalets in order to protect the fauna and flora, and to stimulate plant growth recovery. Other measures include the utilisation of solar energy to supply electricity, as well as water conservation efforts such as the use of borehole water.

On their recent developments, owners SJ and Denise Koortzen, say: “Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge has seen immense growth in visitors over the years due to our team’s dedication and passion to hospitality. As such, we wanted to transform our Lodge into a truly full-service destination, catering to not only our guests’ every need, but visitors too looking for an effortless stop along their journey.”

Previously having won a Certificate of Excellence Award for Northern Cape accommodation, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge continues to offer guests a proudly natural environment for a luxurious South African getaway. Whether you’re looking to explore in the nearby Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, enjoy a lazy afternoon under the Kalahari sun, or tantalise your tastebuds with delectable cuisine, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge is a must-visit destination for unforgettable memories.

One of the most wonderful experiences. The staff were friendly and always willing to accommodate us, even once offering to drive to the next town to get us what we wanted (I declined, of course). The room was spacious and comfy and had an amazing view of the Kalahari – a few wild animals came to visit as well. The restaurant has a great selection of food, and the market has everything you need to braai at your room. Bookings for car hire to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park were done with ease, and is a must. I would love to return!

We had a fantastic 4-night stay at Kgalagadi. What a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, the accommodation was clean and comfy, with lots of room for lounging. The restaurant was great and we enjoyed all of our meals there, tasting a variety of different dishes. The onsite grocery store was well stocked and there was an array of memorabilia to choose from to take back home with us (for ourselves and as gifts).

        What a fantastic experience!

The location couldn’t be anymore perfect to witness the most spectacular sunrises each morning as you look across the road at Botswana. The staff add to the experience by always be willing and able to go the extra mile and coupled with the amazing food from the Black Mane restaurant, the hot Northern Cape sun and the most luxurious accommodation, I would highly recommend the Kgalagadi Lodge to any traveler seeking an alternative to the usual.

The Oryx 4×4 Hire came in handy when we needed to travers the terrain of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and is must do when at the lodge.

        5 stars across the board!

The experience, facility, people and wildlife all of super quality. Staff were super friendly and willing to accommodate with any requests. Rooms were clean and comfy with lots of space for relaxing and downtime. Enjoyed the variety of meals over my 4-day stay with a pretty view from the restaurant in the morning and during sunset. Pleasantly surprised at the variety of things on offer at the onsite store including pantry items and gifts/souvenirs. The game drive at the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a MUST for every visitor!! The experience was amazing as we got so see a variety of the wildlife the park had on offer. Would definitely go back again even if for an overnight stay.

I had the most magical time at this most magnificent place. Every single thing exceeded my expectations. The staff at the lodge was amazing, so attentive and polite. The food at Black Mane resturant is fantastic. I had the most wonderful experience of the kgalagadi transfrontier park using the oryx 4×4 car hire. The villa was stunning, spacious and fully equipped with everything you need and more. Everything about this place was wonderful. The best memories made, I had the time of my life!

        This place exceeds expectations!
We spent 3 nights at Kgalagadi and each day was never the same. They have an Emu that roams freely and that was the highlight of the stay. The luxury 3 bedroom chalet boasted modern finishes and fittings, good sized bedrooms, stunning kitchen and lovely entertainment spaces for a braai. The menu at Black Main restaurant catered to something for everyone and more than what you would expect from a bushveld restaurant. Oryx 4×4 hire made the Game Drive through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park a breeze with their Toyota Fortuner.
Overall the experience was breath taking – staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and prepared with love that you could taste it. The view from the Chalet was the perfect place to watch the sunrise on the borders of Botswana. You never need to leave the lodge because they have it all – onsite restaurant, pool, art gallery and shop which has all your essentials such as home made bread and even memorabilia so you can take a piece of Kgalagadi Lodge with you!
I would highly recommend the lodge and I will certainly go back there.
